Latest
Release of Acrobat Brimming
with Features |
"What you see is what
you get" should always
be the rule in collaborative
proofing technologies. Adobe
Acrobat 7.0 Professional
is one tool that abides by
that rule. This latest release
of Acrobat Pro includes new
mark-up and commenting features
and the ability to color
manage files. On April 3rd,
Adobe announced PDF
Print Engine. This winning combination
of technological developments
makes the "what you
see is what you get" rule
even easier to achieve.

The new PDF Print Engine
might be one of the most
significant
enhancements to print workflows
since the first release of
PostScript. It means that
all of the important
features in a PDF file remain
unchanged throughout the production
process. All transparency,
layer and color management
features
of the file remain intact.
If you need to repurpose
the file
later (for the Web or office
printing, for example), it
is a simple matter of applying
different
output instructions to the
file.
You need the Professional
version of Acrobat to create comments
in PDF files, but once you have
created the comments, users of
the free
Acrobat Reader have
access to the collaborative features.
This in turn improves the ability
to use your PDF files for print
production and adds a high level
of security for using PDF in
the proof cycle. Of course, you
can use the commenting features
cross-platform. Although earlier
versions of Acrobat have allowed
users to make comments using
sticky notes, the ability to
utilize and respond to those
comments using Reader is new,
and the tool set for creating
and editing those notes has been
significantly enhanced.
Anyone with any version of Acrobat
can indicate text edits, stamp
a document and participate in
an email-based or browser-based
review. All users can also reply
to comments and receive comments
from other reviewers. The new
version also allows for secure
use of digital signatures to
sign off on documents.
Acrobat has already become a
popular tool for sending proofs
quickly and easily. With Acrobat
7.0 Professional and the new
Adobe PDF Print Engine, the
tools are in place for making
this
method of delivering proofs more
secure and more.
